My 1 yr old shish tzu has problems with his anal glands. I have taken him to my vet to have the anal glands expressed twice. I have only had the dog for 6 weeeks. He is a rescue dog. I was told it would help to mix pumpkin with his food. I also was told that this problem could go away by itself. In your opinion would the pumpkin help? And could this problem cure itself? I feed my dog a high fiber diet. Do you have any suggestions.
A canine having to have the anal glands expressed is a not, in my opinion, a problem. It becomes a problem when the glands become infected. Some dogs need to have the glands expressed periodically and others need to have it done routinely. Some dogs never need to have it done- I quess those are the lucky dogs. vetcare
