I have 5 dogs. The 3 males & 1 female whose weights are normal. The 5th dog, a female Dalmation, neutered, is becoming obese. She doesn't spend much time at the feeding bowl, the only snacks they are given is a bite of chicken or beef, but this dog just keeps getting fatter and fatter. I'm beginning to wonder if a female dog goes through the same weight problem as a middle age female going through menopause. We blow up! Do dogs get hormonal embalances after the are neutered? If so, what can I do stop the weight explosion? I'm afraid her weight is going to kill her.
Have the vet check her thyroid level b/c it is possible that she is hypothyroid. Weight loss is best acomplised with exercise and a decrease in coloric intake. Try light diets such as science diet light. Good luck, vetcare
