My 9 year old male yorkshire terrier has bladder stones. The vet wants to do surgery for $900 which we can't afford. He put him on orbax because he had blood in his urine due to an infection from the stones. My dog seems to be fine and does not seem to be sick or in any pain. If I don't have the surgery can my dog just live with the stones or do I need to put him to sleep? I don't want him to suffer because I can't afford surgery. Or can I just keep giving him orbax for the infection? If so how long can I continue to give him orbax, indefinitely? Like I said he doesn't appear to be in any pain and is running around playing like his usual happy self. Please help by giving me the information I need to make the right decision.
The stones do cause pain but wheather or not your pet is in pain, I do not know. If your pet does not have any problems urinating and is acting normally then I would refrain from euthanasia. Talk to your vet about special diets b/c sometimes that can help shrink the stones. Vetcare
