My shar-pei has an ear infection at least 2 x year that requires 2 weeks of antibiotics and coritzone shot to clear it. We constantly keep tabs on her ears to make sure that they are clean and dry but she still gets infections. She scratiches so much she makes her ears bleed(I have put a collar on her so she can't scratch -- she hates it!)and her ears are black on the edges(she's fawn). Any suggestions?
I would be surprised if your Shar-pei did not have ear infections. These breeds are prone to ear infections. I recommend cleaning the ears 1-2 times weekly with a nolvasan based ear cleaner and keeping the ears as dry as possible. Due to the anatomy of the ear in these breeds it is very hard to prevent ear infections. vetcare
