I have two dogs that are a mix of black lab, malamute, and other. They are sisters. I have moved to Florida for the winter and they seemed to adjust very well, but lately they both have lost a lot of weight, and one of them was even overweight. Now you can feel all of their ribs and they are getting a little too skinny. I don't know why. They seem to be eating okay, although we have another dog, male, and he sometimes wants to keep them from the food. They all want to fight over the food even though we keep two large dishes filled at all times. Can you suggest what might be causing them to lose all this weight? They are on Heartguard year-round and on Program flea medication. I also give them Brewer's Yeast tabs and Gluco-C tabs every day.
It is one thing to loose a little weight but it worries me that you can feel the bones etc.. There are many causes of weight loss ranging from intestinal parasites to more serious diseases such as cancer. I am not saying that you pet has parasites or cancer, I am just saying it is hard for me to tell you the exact cause of your pets weight loss. I do recommend a vet visit and do not forget to bring a stool sample. vetcare
