hi, my name is Amy and I have a question about my sister's cat. He got outside two weeks ago and within a week a large lump was forming between his shoulder blades. Yesterday morning it ruptured and oozed puss like I've never seen before. the thick mucus was so bad it dripped continuously down his legs. We held a towel on it and then cut the hair where it was coming from and cleaned it with peroxide. we found a small hole a little bigger than a pen tip. I can only describe it as a tooth mark. We cleaned it up and put gauze on it to stop the oozing. My sister doesn't have money to take him to the vet right now and the animal hospital said it was an abbess and he's going to die without surgery. Are we doing everything right and does this sound like an abbess? What else can we do for him? He's not acting any differently and he's eating and drinking.

Sounds like an abscess. I usually treat these surgically. Sometimes the pet does not need surgery. It depends on the case. vetcare
