I have been told my mixed breed golden/lab has a type of mange that is carried in the blood that at varies times surfaces to the skin and causes itching, chewing, bad hair lose, sores, and also settles in the feet, on the back towards the tail and on top of the shoulders. I have used a dip from my vet called tactic (I think this is how you spell it). It takes 3 dips, 2 weeks apart to stop it, but it in time always comes back. Is this an uncurable problem and is there any other solutions? He said the dogs mother probably had it. I was told it is not contagious to humans or other animals. What are my options?
Are you talking about Demodex mange?? It is not carried in the blood. It is not contagious and is usually self limiting. I treat it with mitaban dips every 2 weeks for about 2-3 treatments. It is usually seen in young dogs and as long as it is not generalized (all over the body) the prognosis is good. Vetcare
