My cat suffers from obstipation every few months. (Started when he was about 2 years old.) He has seen a variety of Vets and is on laxatone/lactulose daily. He eats Prescription Diet ID. This happens without warning; he is fine one day pooping regularly, then gets 'stuck'. Any advice on how I can take care of this problem? He has had stomach Xrays, an ultrasound, and many rectal exams. Is there some other test they can use to figure out the cause? Should he have some type of rectal xray? Some Vets think we should try Cisapride but I hate to add in another medicine that may or may not help.
Thank you for any and all pointers.
If your pet has a condition known as megacolon then periodic enemas as the vets office is a fact of life. In my experience surgery does not work well and the meds work to a certain degree. Vetcare
