I have a 4 year old shitzhu female who appears in excellent health.
Vaccinations are up to date.
Until about a year ago, she was on one of the monthly chew tablets to prevent heartworm. Due to financial
restrictions at the time, we were not able to keep her on them. I do realize the importance of this medication and want to restart her on them. My question is: is it necessary to have the bloodwork done first prior to starting the preventative medication or can I just start the medications safely?
It is my understanding that the preventative tx and the
curative tx are the same medication with the only difference being in the doseage. Thank you.
The curative and preventative are very different medications. Yes, it is important to have the blood test done prior to starting heartworm preventative again. Vetcare
