I have a 6 year old American Eskimo. For the past 3-4 years she has been biting around her anus. She licks and licks until it is raw, she licks the fur away. We have been to about 4 different vets and they all try the same thing. We have given her antibiotics, benedryl, another medication like benedryl, cortisone cream, etc. We also keep her in a cone while we are gone so she is unable to lick. She has recently figured out how to lick with the cone on. She does not do it in front of us, she will leave the room and hide to do it. So I know that she thinks it is wrong. She does not scoot on the carpet. We milk her anal glands about once a month, per the vet request. The are usually pretty empty. She is fixed. Any suggestions?
Have you discussed anti-anxiety meds with your vet? This could be a behavioral problem in which case anti-anxiety meds may help. vetcare
