Our 10 year old doxie male was dx'd with lymphoma last March due to swollen glands in his neck. A needle biopsy was done and from the slide the diagnosis was made. We opted not to do chemo because it wouldn't change the outcome and we didn't want to make him suffer. We opted for prednisone & a special diet (raw food w/supplements). Now, six months later our dog is doing great, except he is showing some side affects from the prednisone such as the skin changes, enlarged liver, etc. Our vet says we can't test for the lymphoma because the prednisone will affect the results. He suggest we ween him off this med and go on Leukeran. Please give me your advise on this med and if you know of any tests that can be done to find out if the cancer is in remission or if he really ever had it. What else could we be dealing with?
I recommend that you ask your vet for a referral to an ocologist (cancer specialist). A biopsy can confirm a diagnosis. vetcare
