15yr old cat has been taking methimazole for 3-4 yrs. Now it appears it isn't working to control thyroid - blood test indicates approx 13 vs 2. Have increased dose from 1.5 (5mg) per day to 2 (5 mg) pills per day. He won't hardly eat/drink and continues to lose weight. Our vet is just giving him fluid injections to get fluid in him. Isn't there anything else that can be done to save our cat? Please help!
Your cat is a geriatric. There are many other problems that may be causing her to be sick besides the thyroid dz. If the tyroid medication does not work and your vet finds your cat healthy otherwise, then you can consider having the thyroid surgically removed. Good luck, vetcare
