We brought a puppy home when he was 8 weeks old. He's now a happy, healthy 6 months old puppy.
We paper trained him because we have a low fence and we didn't want to leave him in the yard by himself. During the first few days, we made the mistake of not crating him but by the fourth day we started to do so. He learnt to go to his spot after abt 2 weeks of training. He has been very consistent until about 3 weeks ago (after 3 months of no accidents), he started to urinate in the kitchen. After we tried to correct him (its hard as we never caught him red-handed), he still does that about 3 times a week.
Please note that we used to have someone home with him, until 3 weeks ago when we both had to go to work. He'll be left alone sometimes for a stretch of 8 hrs.
My qns -
1) What else can we do to rectify this? We've continued to praise him when he goes at the right spot.
2) Is this a common problem, if so, will it go away?
3) Will neutering him help the problem?
This is normal. I do recommend that you neuter him b/c it will help. Start trainning him again. Start from the beginning with the trainning. Give him a treat when he goes in the right place. I recommend that you keep him isolated in an area about 2-3 times his size while you are not home. Good luck and be patient. vetcare
