My 2 year old Irish Wolfhound began shaking her head so I checked her ears and found an excessive amount of dark brown heavy wax in both ears. I cleaned them with cotton balls and warm water and before using the dampened cotton balls noticed that the lower ear canal was moist. The head shaking seemed to get much better, however after about 10 days it has started again and the heavy dark brown wax buildup is back. She is otherwise happy, does not have a temperature and is eating and playing as always. What do I need to do to rid her of this problem? She has never had it before. Do you think she has an infection? Thank you for your help.
It sounds like your pet has an ear infection and should be seen by the vet. A culture of the ear should be done to determine the type of infection and appropriate treatment. Good luck, vetcare
