My cat has had a cough that will persist for several days then go away for weeks. I took him into the local vet that wanted to do several very expensive tests to determine why he is coughing. They offered that it could be Feline Asthma and that treatment could be done with steroids. They were reluctant to try the steroids without a diagnosis done with the tests. Unfortunatly, I do not have the funds for the tests. Can I not try getting steroids for my cat to see if they might work?
You have to talk to your vet about this. Steroids have side effects so most vets like to do blood work prior to starting this medication. Plus your pet may not have asthma in which case the steroids could be the wrong medication. If you have a good relationship with your vet and you are willing to try the steroids without a blood test and you understand that there could be side effects, then your vet may give the med??? But I can not speak for your vet. vetcare
