I have a mixed breed who had beautiful golden brown and white hair. Now I have an almost bald dog. He scratches, rubs and bites constantly to the point of tearing his hair out and making himself bleed. I've had him to two vets. One says it's hot spots, the other says it's an allergy and yeast infection on the skin. His skin is dry, flaky, red and inflamed. His tail seems to have a crust on it, sort of like cradle cap, and he has patches of black skin. They both prescribed Prednisone. One suggested bathing him with Nizorol shampoo. The medication worked while he was on it, but as soon as the prescription is done, the scratching, biting, rubbing, and hair loss comes back. Do you have any suggestions?
I recommend that you see a vet dermatologist for a 3rd opinion. It is hard for me to tell you what I think, with out seeing your pet and running some tests. Good luck, vetcare
