My 13 year old spayed female cat has had several episodes of labored breathing and two episodes of lower paralysis. Our vet says it could be a thrombosis problem, heart problem or pleural effusion. She is now on lasix. Xrays are inconclusive. We do not have access to an ultra sound. Her lungs were drained once of about 12 oz. of fluid. We wonder how long we can safely keep her on the lasix or what else we can do for her?
It sounds like your vet is on the right track. Lasix is a relatively safe medication and animals do well on it. I strongly recommend an echo or a fluid analysis of the fluid in the chest. This could give you a better idea about your pets heart. Good luck, vetcare
