I have a 100lb, 8 1/2 year old dog who hurt his back this past fall. He is recovering and is on Rimadyl (100mg 2xs a day). The trouble is he isn't eating, hasn't been since he hurt his back in September. My vet has done full screening and there isn't anything wrong with him besides the back injury. When I take him off the Rimadyl his appetite does not return, but he has a lot of pain and cannot move. When I say he isn't eating anything, I mean nothing. No steak, no chicken, no gravies, no dog food, etc. I've kept him going by force-feeding him soft food. Do you have any suggestions on how to get him eating?
It sounds like your pet has something else happening besides a back injury. I am very surpised he is still alive since he doesn't eat. He must of lost a tremendous amount of weight. I recommend you see a specialist for a second opinion. You can talk to your vet about steroid treatment. Sometimes this can increase appetitie. Good luck, vetcare.
