I have 3 longed haired cats. I noticed 2wks ago my 1 cat, Boo,that the last 1/4 of his tail has almost no hair. The other 2 seem fine. I have a hot moist air humidifier I use which I had on last winter with NO problems.
The Gas furnace sounds like it's set to kick on when the temp gets into the teens or below. Other than that I have not turned on the temp guage in my apt for 2 yrs. My local vet has no answer for why Boo may be losing his hair in only that area. I have noticed he does seem to drink maybe a little more water. That of course has made me wonder about Diabetes
Looking forward to your answer to this puzzling question. Thank you.
I have never seen a cat loose hair on the tail do to diabetes. I recommend that your vet do a bloodtest anyway. I also recommend a thyroid test. It is possible that your pet has an overactive thyroid. Other possibilities include excessive grooming, skin infection, fungal infection, allergies, mites or fleas. If your vet can not find the answer then I recommend a dermatologist. Good luck, vetcare
