Last year I had the neighbor's vet. do blood work on our three dogs so they could be started on the Heartworm plus, that was only way they could start it. They all three came back negative and they have been on heartgard plus since. Now their last dose was Feb. 28th, 2003/ We have a vet who does large animals too(horses) so we had him do the shots for the dogs, while doing the horses coggins, but I don't want to pay another bill for the blood work we have had it already and since they have been on heartgard they should not have heartworm, he doesn't want to give me the prescription because they need another blood test he said. This is becoming so expensive just to take care of them, we have given them this heartgard every single month and I know they don't have worms or heartworm unless it doesn't work. So why can't I refill the heartgard before March 28th, so they can not have a break and be on it the whole time?
I sympathize with you but your vet sets the rules. Many vets require a yearly test even if the dog has been on heartworm all year. Sorry, vetcare
