My retreiver/chow mix has recurring ear infections. We have used otomax, which seems to get rid of it, but she gets another infection. Most often it is yeast with a little bacteria. Is there anything I can do at home to try to prevent them, like yogurt or a change in diet? Her other problem is licking of the anus. She has had her anal glands removed and even had a second surgery to remove some scar tissue, but she is still constantly digging. Her anus is obviously swollen. I want to help her out, but the cost of going to the vet all the time is adding up, esp. since the problems are never really cured. Could these problems be from allergies?
I recommend that you try to keep the ear as dry as possible. You can buy products that help keep the ear dry. Try some OTC cortisone cream on the anus area. vetcare
