My son has a hamster that is about 2 years old. About a month ago we noticed him starting to loose some hair and having scaly patches on his skin. We had recently changed litter so we thought it might be an allergic reaction to the litter. So we changed back to the original litter. Since then he as gotten consistently worse now to the point of almost no hair and his skin is thick and very scaly. He also has some skin abrasions from his scratching. I am wondering if he has some sort of a fungal infection? Do you have any other answers to what the problem may be and how we can treat it. Otherwise he seems healthy. What do you suggest?
It could be a mite, fungal infection, bacterial infection. It could also be homonal. I recommend a vist to the vet. Good luck, vetcare
