Having trouble regulating Diabetes. I realize that with Cushings this is difficult to regulate. Is there any other way I can home test other than Urine test strips? Strips always test high but she acts like sugar is low. She gets .11cc HumalinH insulin twice a day and is on 1/2 tab Lysodren twice a week. She also gets 100mg. PS (phosphatidyl serine), 2 Grass Saver tabs, 1 Brewers Yeast plus w/garlic. Could one of these additional supplements cause problems with diabets? She eats well, but still drinks tons of water.
You are right, it is very difficult regulating a diabetic that also has cushings disease and completely regulating your pet will be almost impossible (at least in my experience). Ask your vet to teach you how to test the blood sugur. If you have a good dog and you feel comfortable with blood then you may be a ble to try this. The urine strips are the easiest way to test and it is the way I teach my clients. It is better to have a pet with a sugur that is a bit high then too low. Make sure your pet is on a consistent diet (feed 2x daily). Good luck, Vetcarerx vet team
