We have a 1 year old sheltie/pom mix. We've had her 7 months and things are going down hill fast. When we first got her she did the usual puppy chewing (shoes, etc) while she was losing her baby teeth. But now she's over a year old and is doing major damage. We can't give her ANY type of dog toys - she eats them (even hard rubber toys labeled indestructable). The other night she chewed/dug a 5 inch diameter hold through my carpeting (yes, in the middle of the room).
I NEED HELP. Should I see the vet about an anxiety medication??
I would handle this in a few ways. First, I would buy Nyla bones. They are indestructible and dogs like to chew them. I would buy a few different kinds and rotate them so she does not get bored. Second, I would also give her more exercise and attention. One reason why dogs chew is because they are bored. Third, I would puppy proof the house. Do not make anything available for her to chew. Good luck, vetcare
