Every Summer, my Rat Terrier gets a bald spot that starts on her hips and progresses to the middle of her back. The skin on her belly gets red and splotchy whenever she's been out in the grass, too. We've tried the oatmeal shampoos and even perscription nizoral. Nothing seems to help stop the itching. Is there anything else we could try?
Your pet may have a seasonal allergy or an allergy to fleas. Make sure your pet is on a good flea product such as Advantage or Frontline. If your pet has no fleas then it could be a seasonal allergy to just about anything in the environment. You can have your pet allergy tested. Some vets will try using antihistamines such as Benadryl. If this does not work, prednisone ( a steroid ) often helps a great deal with the itching. Good luck, vetcarerx vet team
