I have a Rottweiler that I have taken to the vet twice in 2 months. He has large hotspots that won't go away. The vet cleaned him up put him on the same antibiotic and sent me home. Between the visits, meds, and baths, it cost me over $300. He still has them. Today I gave him a medicated bath. They are better but they're not going away. What else can I try and is there something specific that may be causing it. Thank you.
Fleas can cause hot spots. Make sure your pet is free of fleas. I usually give antibiotic and steroids (prednisone) to treat hot spots. The steroid decreases the inflammation and relives the itch. Try benadryl 50 mg 2 x daily orally, bacitracin (or gentacin spray, sold at our web site) applied to the hotspot 2 x daily and continue with the shampoo and antibiotic. I recommend you see another vet if there is no improvement. Good luck, vetcare
