My cat Cinnamon is 2 yrs old.
She was about 4-5 months when I found her. She is 2 yrs old now. The vet said her weight was enough to go thru being spayed and declawed. When I took her home she had blood on her stool. When I took her to my vet, she said she had IBS and put her on Prednisone 5 mg, once a day, 1/2 tab, and Endosorb tabs, 1/4 tab crushed in canned food (Hill's Presc Diet-Feline ID)
once a day. She also eat same brand dry food. She has been on this regimond for almost a year. She does fine until I try to ween her off the Prednisone (1/4 tab) every other day. I find drops of blood in her stool and on the floor.
She has gained so much weight being on the prednisone. She's 15 lbs and she's a small frame cat.
The vet just keeps saying that some cats it can take a long time to get rid of the IBS. I am really concerned keeping her on prednisone for so long.
Can you recommend another form of treatment? Or, do you think it could be something other than IBS?
Ibs is not a dz that usually "just goes away". It is usually controlled as oposed to cured. I do recommend an intestinal biopsy to make a definitive diagnosis. good luck, vetcare
