My Boston Terrier has been diagnosed with Addison's disease. Have you ever heard of this disease in a dog? How could he have gotten this? Is this disease difficult to keep under control? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
This is an endocrine disorder seen mostly in dogs resulting from the deficient production of glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids. Primary hypoadrenocorticism (addisons)could have many causes including idiopathic (immune mediated), metastatic tumors and, granulomatous dz. The prognosis is good to excellent following proper stabilization and treatment. It requires alot of follow-up testing but you should be able to get good control over the dz. Good luck, vetcare
