My cat is 9 years old and weighs 18 lbs. He's always been a big cat, as were his brothers & sister. Over the past 6 months, he's had trouble passing stools, to the point that I take him to our vet to get enemas every 2 weeks or so. The vet put him on cissapride 1 ml 2x a day, as well as catlax 2x a day. The cat still has a lot of problems passing. Is there any other way to treat this? I'm concerned that his colon will stretch and start not working at all. Is this a common problem in large cats? When he does go at home, it's 4-5 small pieces, but quite big around, and quite dry. He seems to do this 2x a day, when he's able to go at all. Do you have any suggestions?
You can also try pumpkin filling mixed with the food. This provides fiber which aids in bowel movements. vetcare
