I have an 8 year old female Golden Retriever. At 7 years old, she was diagnosed & treated for an A.V. Fistual (over 100 connections)!! Since then, she has a very slight limp & any uphill walking at all really tires her out. I live in a very hilly region. She has a very low energy tolerance even for walking on flat land in cool weather. I can't remember the last time that she even tried to run. She is also overweight (105 lbs.) although she is extremely tall & long. Her ideal weight is 85-90 lbs per our vet). She has reoccuring hot spots & a lick granuloma & has been on Prednisone & antibiotics plus her daily Hydroxizine. I know this medicine combo makes her tired, but she really struggles anyway when it comes to walking and therefore it's hard to exercise her. She swims occasionally. Any suggestions on what I can do to keep her fit without stressing her system? Thank you for your help.
You should talk to her vet about this because of the complexity of her medical condition. I usually recommend that you cut the diet by 1/3. You can also try science diet w/d or r/d. vetcare
