The QuickFinder Clipper is a nail clipper for dogs (up to 75 lbs), cats and small animals, and birds, that utilizes QuickSensor Technology that senses your pet's quick and gives visual cues as to when it is safe and when it is not safe to begin clipping. Red-Yellow-Green. Green means Go! It is fast, safe and easy to use.

QuickSensor senses with a circuit-board precision, when it is safe to cut, when to be cautious, and when it is not safe to cut. The QuickFinder Clipper is not designed for high volume usage (e.g. grooming salons, veterinary offices, or animal shelters).

How Does It Work?: The QuickFinder Clipper works on amazing Quicksensor technology that senses your pet's quick and gives you visual cues as to when it is safe and when it is not safe to begin clipping. The patented QuickSensor detects the changes in frequencies in your pet’s nail due to sensing of the blood vessels and nerve endings in the quick. When the blood vessels or nerve endings are detected, the red light will illuminate. As you move the QuickFinder slowly toward the tip of the nail, the light will change to yellow (caution) and finally to green - safe to cut. The QuickFinder Clipper is battery operated and includes two AG13/LR44 batteries.

How To Use: Step 1: Power Up: To power on the unit and keep powered up slightly squeeze handles together until red light only is illuminated (continue to keep handles slightly squeezed together to keep power on). If all lights illuminate and remain on, there is insufficient power and batteries must be replaced. If green light stays on, turn unit off by releasing handles, wait two seconds for unit to reset and restart power up phase again. Once red light stays illuminated unit has sufficient battery power and is ready for operation.

Step 2: With unit powered up (red light on), insert nail into fixed blade hole from under side of clipper. Keep nail at 90º angle and against sensor side of the fixed blade hole. Move cutting blades toward base of nail far enough that quick in the nail will be detected for the first time. The red light will flicker and remain on. This sets the sensor to the quick in the nail. Note that the nail should continually be on the sensor side of the hole during sensing for sensing to occur.

Step 3: Maintaining power to unit, move cutting blades back towards nail tip away from nail base. The yellow light may briefly illuminate as blade and sensor approaches nail without quick. Continue moving cutting blades outward until green light illuminates indicating a safe cut. It is not safe to clip when yellow or red lights are on.

Step 4: While maintaining position and angle (90º) of clipper, squeeze handles together in firm swift motion to avoid crushing nail. It is normal for green light to turn off at end of clipping action after blade has cut through nail. If red light stays on, power off device and restart clipping process (Step 1). The QuickFinder will automatically turn off in open position (Handles not depressed).

Features:
  • Electronic safety nail clippers use QuickSensor technology to sense a pet’s quick giving lighted visual clues when it is safe to clip, when to be cautious, and when not to clip.
  • The patented QuickSensor detects the changes in frequencies in a pet’s nail due to sensing of the blood vessels and nerve endings in the quick. When the blood vessels or nerve endings are detected, the red light will illuminate.
  • As the QuickFinder is moved slowly toward the tip of the nail, the light will change to yellow (caution) and finally to green – safe to cut.

What type of nail clippers are best for dogs?
Answer

The best type of nail clippers for dogs typically depends on the size, breed, and comfort level of both the dog and the owner. According to Catherine Barnette, a DVM from Florida School of Veterinary Medicine, guillotine-style nail clippers are popular and suitable for dogs of various sizes. They consist of a small hole where the nail is placed, and a sharp blade slides across to trim the nail. Scissor-type clippers, resembling regular scissors, are another option and are effective for dogs with thicker nails. Additionally, there are grinder-style nail tools that use a rotating filing mechanism to gradually shorten the nails. For dogs with extremely hard or thick nails, a heavy-duty clipper designed for larger breeds may be necessary. It's crucial to choose a clipper with sharp blades to ensure clean and precise cuts, minimizing the risk of splintering or crushing the nail. Furthermore, selecting a clipper with a safety guard helps prevent over-cutting and reduces the likelihood of causing injury to your dog. Regular grooming sessions and positive reinforcement can also contribute to a more comfortable experience for the dog during nail trimming. Ultimately, the best choice may vary, and owners should consider their dog's specific needs and preferences when selecting the most suitable nail clippers.

Can I use human nail clippers on my dog?
Answer

Using human nail clippers on your dog is not recommended. Dog nails are different from human nails in terms of thickness, shape, and texture. Canine nails often have a harder outer layer and a softer inner core, making them more challenging to trim with standard human nail clippers. Using the wrong tools can cause discomfort, stress, or even injury to your dog. Teresa Manucy, a DVM from Florida, points out that human nail clippers can be used for very small or young dogs. However, clippers designed exclusively for dogs often make it simpler to see what you're doing, making it a safer choice. In all other cases, it is highly recommended to use specialized clippers, as they are designed to accommodate the unique structure of canine nails. These tools provide better control and precision while minimizing the risk of splintering or crushing the nails. Additionally, some dog nail clippers come with safety features like a quick sensor to help prevent cutting into the sensitive quick of the nail. Before attempting to trim your dog's nails, it's crucial to familiarize yourself with the proper technique and consult a professional groomer for guidance.

What clippers do most dog groomers use?
Answer

Most professional dog groomers typically use a variety of nail clippers based on the dog's size, breed, and individual needs. Two common types of dog nail clippers widely favored by groomers are guillotine clippers and scissor clippers. Guillotine clippers have a small hole where the nail is placed and a blade slides across to trim the nail. Scissor clippers function like regular scissors, providing groomers with precision and control during the trimming process. In addition to manual clippers, many groomers also use electric nail grinders. These tools have a rotating abrasive tip that files down the nail gradually. It's quick and easy, but it might be frightening for some pets. Grinders are suitable for dogs with thicker nails and can be less intimidating for pets sensitive to traditional clipping methods. Some groomers may prefer specific brands known for their durability, sharpness, and ergonomic design. Ultimately, the choice of clippers may vary among groomers based on personal preference and the specific needs of the dogs they handle. Professional groomers often invest in high-quality tools to ensure efficiency, safety, and a comfortable experience for the dogs in their care.

What is a 7-blade used for in dog grooming?
Answer

In dog grooming, a #7 blade is a specific type of clipper blade. It has a cutting length that leaves the coat about 1/8 inch or 3.2 mm long. Groomers use the #7 blade for various purposes depending on the breed, coat type, and desired grooming style. This blade length is commonly used for creating a neat and tidy look on short-haired breeds or for certain grooming patterns on longer-haired dogs. The #7 blade is often employed for a summer cut or a puppy cut, where a short and even coat is desired. It is also used in sanitary areas, such as around the genital and anal regions, to maintain cleanliness. Groomers may use this blade on certain areas of the body, like the face or paws, to achieve a uniform and well-groomed appearance. It's important for groomers to consider the specific needs of each dog and the grooming style desired by the owner. While the #7 blade is versatile, groomers may choose different blade lengths for various grooming tasks to achieve the desired dog coat length. Overall, the #7 blade is a valuable tool in a dog groomer's kit.

How can I groom my dog at home?
Answer

Grooming your dog at home requires patience, the right tools, and an approach that makes the experience positive for both you and your pet. Begin by gathering essential grooming tools, including a brush suitable for your dog's coat type, dog-friendly shampoo, nail clippers, and possibly a comb. Start with a gentle brushing to remove tangles and loose hair, focusing on areas prone to matting. Bathe your dog using lukewarm water and a dog-specific shampoo, being careful to avoid their eyes and ears. petMD notes that baby shampoo can also be used in place of dog shampoo since itโ€™s formulated to be gentle on the skin. After drying your dog thoroughly, trim their nails using proper dog nail clippers, taking care not to cut into their skin. If your dog has a longer coat, consider using grooming scissors to trim around their paws, ears, and any areas with excess hair. Pay attention to sensitive areas and be cautious with the tools to avoid causing stress or injury. Regularly check and clean your dog's ears, teeth, and anal glands as part of the grooming routine. Positive reinforcement, treats, and praise can help make the grooming process more enjoyable for your dog.
