Effectively treats and prevents urinary stones
Can help prevent bladder stones and urinary tract infections
Easy to administer

UTIs are painful and frustrating. And can lead to accidents in the house. Help your pet avoid them with Methio-Form. Methio-Form is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to treat and prevent certain types of urinary stones in both dogs and cats. This easy-to-administer remedy can help prevent bladder stones and urinary tract infections.

Methio-Form is a prescription medication available in the form of chewable tablets. It is a urinary acidifier indicated in the treatment and prevention of certain types of urinary stones in dogs. It is also used for diluting dog's urine. Methionine is an essential amino acid, which should be obtained from food as it is not synthesized by the body. It helps to reduce the chances of stones in dogs by chelating heavy metals such as lead, cadmium and mercury and expelling them from the body.

Daily dosages normally depend on the type of diet. The recommended daily dose range in cats is 1 to 3 tablets depending on the body weight of the cat. For dogs, the ideal daily dose would be to 4 tablets for up to 15 lbs and for bigger dogs weighing 33-66 lbs, it should be 4 to 13 tablets. The tablets could be given fully or by breaking up into small pieces with food.

DL-Methionine

Side effects may include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If your pet exhibits an allergic reaction (symptoms may include swelling, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, etc.), contact your veterinarian immediately.

Methio-Form may cause Heinz body anemia in cats. The symptoms of this include tiredness, weakness, pale gums, difficulty breathing, loss of appetite, and heart murmurs. If you notice any of these symptoms in your cat, contact your veterinarian.

Not for use in animals with liver disease, pancreatic disease, kidney failure, metabolic acidosis, or urate urinary stones. Do not use in kittens.

Tell your veterinarian about any medications, vitamins, supplements, aminoglycoside antibiotics, or quinidine that your pet is taking, as interactions may occur.

Do not combine Methio-Form with diets that acidify urine unless recommended by your veterinarian.

Refrain from using Methio-Form in pets with proven liver, kidney or pancreatic disease. It should be never be used in animals with kidney stones or metabolic acidosis. Never combine this drug with food that acidifies the urine unless specifically instructed by veterinarian. Extreme caution is required while administering Methio-Form with aminoglycoside antibiotics such as gentamicin or quinidine. Always reveal to the veterinarian, the details of other medications, nutritional supplements and vitamins that the pet is on.ย

Clinical results show that the medication is well tolerated by dogs. However, in some cases, side effects such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea are reported, which should be intimated to the veterinarian immediately. Over dosage can result in serious and often fatal metabolic acidosis, which calls for urgent medical intervention. Symptoms of overdose might include loss of appetite, pale mucous membranes, and imbalance.ย
