Do Vets Recommend Canidae Dog Food?
Answer

One of the main issues found in senior dogs is obesity or increasing weight. These overweight conditions that can be found in your pets, can happen due to various internal and external factors. Some of these factors include overconsumption of food, occasionally giving treats to the pet, hormonal disbalances, and an increase in cholesterol. The extra weight can adversely impact the internal organs of the pets as well as their bones and joints. What Is the Difference Between Senior Dog Food and Regular?
Answer

You can find numerous types of multi-dog home vet formulated dog food to be available commercially in the market. These dog foods cater to the various health ailments or nutritional deficits of the pets. The feed requirements for the different stages of a dogโ€™s life cycle are also different. While a growing pup requires that it can help them to build muscles and increase bone strength, an adult or matured years may need the administration of a feed that is capable of taking care of the issues that the pet faces in their senior years. In the senior years, dogs are often seen to exhibit overweight conditions or deficiencies of a particular nutrient. The senior dog foods are formulated to care for such concerns and health ailments so that your pets can live happy and stress-free days in their final years. Another key differentiation that you can see between the feeds for senior dogs and the regular feeds is the difference in the per cup calorie content. On average, a senior dog has a lesser calorie per cup compared to the food for the younger ones.

How Much Canidae Can a Dog Eat?
Answer

Canidae All Life Stages Dry Dog Food, Less Active, Multi-Protein have three hundred and forty-two kilocalories of metabolized energy per cup of feed.

At What Age Should Dogs Eat Senior Food?
Answer

Dogs are considered to be reaching their senior years depending on their age and can vary based on their breed. The larger breeds are considered to have reached their senior years when they turn six years old, while the smaller breeds are considered to be reaching their senior years when reaching their tenth birthday. The classification of dogs into various sets is especially important to help administer the right feed to them and aid in their proper upkeep as per the set norms of that set. The needs of a younger breed vary from that of an older one and vice versa. You can start administering the feed that is applicable for the senior dogs after they reach that particular age as mentioned above as per their breed.

How Often Should a Senior Dog Eat?
Answer

The administration of a feed to a dog at any age should be done after consultation from a certified practicing veterinarian of repute. The veterinarians generally suggest a feed that is in sync with the requirements of the petโ€™s body and the age bracket that it belongs to. In general, it is advisable to feed the senior dogs twice daily. However, the feed ratio is less than that of the adult dogs. This is because with increasing age the pets become less active and therefore reduce the quantity of food and help them to maintain healthy body weight.

Do Senior Dogs Need Different Food?
Answer

Though the nutritional requirement of the body does not change drastically with age it is important to tweak the food as per the change in demand of an aging pet. This can mean the maintenance of the same levels of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and minerals that were given to an adult dog if there are no health ailments or reduction of the level of activities seen among them. However, it is seen that dogs often turn overweight in their senior years. During such times you should be careful in the administration of the right quantity and type of feed as non-compliance of feed and the conditions of the body can aggravate the health issues further.

Transition Instructions

We have found that the smoothest transition from one dog food to another is to mix the foods together. When changing to CANIDAE some dogs may do better by making a gradual transition over 7 - 10 days. Start with 25% of the new food mixed with 75% of the previous diet and gradually increase the new while decreasing the previous until the transition is complete

C
Fussy dog eats it
VERIFIED PURCHASER

We have a very fussy dog that enjoys eating hi cal food topped with gravy or flavor enhancers. Well after a few days the hunger strike was over and he eats it now without protest. Good quality food and he isn't gaining unhealthy weight.
