Understanding Flea & Ticks
At PetCareRx, we feel that a well educated customer is a happy customer.
Overview
Fleas and ticks may pose a very real threat to the health and comfort of your pet. In addition to extreme discomfort, fleas and ticks can also cause serious health problems in pets and people. Don't compromise.
FLEAS
Few creatures can inflict more misery, ounce for ounce, than fleas. These tiny, almost-invisible pests can make life miserable and disrupt your household with a vicious cycle of biting and scratching. Fleas may also cause flea allergy dermatitis in some pets and may be carriers of dangerous diseases.
TICKS
Often too tiny to be seen, ticks attach to pets and feed on blood until they are engorged. They thrive in high humidity and moderate temperatures, but can be found all over the country. Ticks may carry and transmit diseases, including Lyme disease, that can cause serious health problems for pets and people.
Where Fleas Hide
Flea infestation is difficult to control, and fleas generally infest homes with tile, hardwood or other hard surface floorings. It is very difficult to rid fleas from hard surfaces. When fleas invade a surface that is carpeted, they generally linger around pet rugs, carpets, and any dark and dusty areas.
Warning Signs
There are two clear signs of flea infestation. The first one is flea dirt, which are the black spots on your pet or in your pet’s bed. These black spots are dried blood that is excreted by fleas. The second warning sign for fleas is incessant agitation, scratching or biting behavior that you might see in your pet. They might become restless and irritated and will scratch themselves if they are infested with fleas or ticks.
How to Prevent Flea & Ticks
Check your pet’s beds and the areas where they spend most of their time. You should also observe their behavior for any unnecessary scratching or biting. There are various prescription and non-prescription flea and tick medications available in the market that will rid your pet of fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. Please ask your veterinarian for which flea and tick product is appropriate for your pet.

How does Sentinel work against fleas?
Lufenuron the main ingredient of Sentinel is an insect growth regulator belonging to the group of benzoyl-phenyl-ureas (BPUs) and is classified as an insect development inhibitor (IDI). Like all BPU's, lufenuron acts as a chitin synthesis inhibitor. Treated immature fleas will not be able to molt to the next stage and females feeding on treated animals will produce eggs out of which no larvae will hatch. The interruption of the flea life cycle at various levels results in a long-term very effective flea control on the animal as well as in the environment.
