Enalapril is the active ingredient present in the medicine. When taken, Enalapril suppresses the function of angiotensin-converting-enzyme, thus reducing the chances of the above said complications in animals. Enacard is not an over-the-counter medication and so prescription from a qualified veterinarian is necessary. The medication is available as convenient tablets.
Precautions
Do not use the medication in animals that exhibit allergic reactions to the drug or any other angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors. Medical diagnosis of the animal is necessary prior to the administration of the medicine, so as to detect organ dysfunction if any. Also, while on medication, conduct periodic check up of the animal with a qualified veterinarian to avoid the onset of any sort of complications due to the medication. Take extra care when using with diuretics as well as NSAIDS, as the medication can interact when in some combinations or might result in reduced effects.
