I have a 10 month old tabby. She has constan...
...t diarreah and leaves a spot wherever she sits (and she always wants to be on our laps!) Is there anything we can do to treat the symptoms right now? The shelter gave us Endosorb and it doesn't help. She is eating only Iams original adult dry food. That's what they told us to give her. The shelter's vet said it could possibly be Food Allergies or Corona disease. Any recommendations for the immediate problem (her wet rear end)?
Try science diet sensitive stomach. This may help. If not, it is time to see a local vet for some tests such as a stool analysis. vetcare

...ot more water in the last month than she used to. She does have Food Allergies, but is on Science Diet Sensitive Stomach food which has no allergens for her in it. Anything to be concerned about. How much should a 18 pound dog drink a day? She used to drink very little and we were always concerned she was not drinking enough! Thanks!
Your vet should examine your pet. When a dog or cat drinks more and urinates more this can be a sign of diabetes, kidney disease or other disorders. Good luck, vetcare

All bulldogs ahave allergies to a certain degree and you are fighting an uphill battle. I recommend allergy testing so you know what she is alleregic to. vetcare

Our 1 year old rotty has been suffering from...
... itching on the muzzle and around his eyes. The vet thinks Food Allergies and we have taken out chicken from his diet. Any products to help stop the itching until we can find out what the problem it. The vet had put him on steroids and that hadn't stopped it. He started it about 4 months ago.
Have you considered an E-collar? This won't stop the itch but it can prevent damage to the face. vetcare

My 9 year old orange tabby
has had 3 seizu...
...res. The first occured when he was 6 years old, the second when he was 8 years old and the third this past week. The first time, he did not lose conciousness, but did so on the two subsequent occasions.
When the second occured, I brought him to the vet who ran tests and stated he could find nothing and suggested Food Allergies, as I sometimes give him small amounts of human food, beef, chicken or pork.
do you think this is possible and do I need to be concerned that he could die from a seizure?
It is unusual for an animal to die from a seizure. I do not think it is related to the food. We usually start animals on anti-seizure meds if they seizure more then 2 times in 6 weeks. vetcare

My son has a pitbull/great dane approximatel...
...y 2 years old. This poor dog has lost most of his hair and his skin is all scaly, we were told he had Food Allergies and to put him on dry food that didn't contain any corn or wheat products, which we did, it seems to have helped a little bit, he doesn't scratch but not alot. Also his paws are swollen and tender, he licks them all the time and the slightest bumping of them causes them to bleed. What can this be caused from and what can we do to help him? We don't have much money so taking him to the vet is out of the question.
When dogs have allergies they lick paws and scratch skin. These are the 2 most common clinical signs. I recommend that you talk to your vet about trying antihistamines. Good luck, vetcare

...y.Has just had a blood test to show Food Allergies and pollen allergies. Can something be done about the pollen/grass allergies. Please would you also tell me whether having an allergy is different to having skin problems i.e. does a dog itch because of an allergy and not necessarily because of a skin problem. Is there a difference? Thank you in ancicipation - Jacqueline Beer
Yes, there is a difference. There mare 100's of different skin problems one of those being allergies. Humans have itchy throats, runny nose, sneezing etc when they have allergies and dogs have itchy skin. vetcare

Your other cats can probably eat the food as well. Talk to your vet. You may want to consider allergy testing so you know the exact foods that are causing the problem. vetcare

Dear Dr.
I own a 4 1/5 y/o female boxer (...
...I actually own 5 boxers total), and she has been plagued with severe foot
allergies for over 2 years now. I've had her allergy tested (skin testing) and they determined she was
allergic to grass smut, dust mites, house dust, wool and mesquite wood. I am currently injecting her with
her allergy medication every 3 weeks. They have ruled out Food Allergies by using Hill's ZD diet exclusively
without any benefit. For her paws, I have used just about antihistamine, every cream, spray, shampoo,
ointment, doggie boots, wraps, and socks to help curtail the allergic reaction. You name it, I've probalby
done it! I am concerned as she HAS to have an injection of Vetalog like clock work about every 3-4
weeks. Her paws are very, very red and hot, and smell like pop corn or corn chips. We've even treated
her with the whole gamut of antibiotics, including Zinaquin. I hate to continue using the steroid injection, but
I cannot find anything
I think at this point you should continue with the vetalog injection or prednisone at the lowest effective dose, otherwise she will suffer. vetcare

My bichon is 5 yrs old with severe allergies...
.... His skin test revealed nothing more severe than a 2 on the test. He has no Food Allergies that we have discovered. His allergies are so severe that he is losing his hearing. His left ear canal is nearly calcified however the tympanic membrane is still in tact. He's on steroids since august, keflex, atarax daily. He was on omega supps. and a slew of oitments and drops for his eyes and ears. On October 28th he had 3 seizures in a row (never before had he experienced any). I pulled him off all meds. and then thanksgiving his symptoms exploded. He is back on atarax, keflex, and steriods. I am also administering his allergy shots. Next week he begins his weekly injection. I have already spent alot of money; that part I'm not concerned about, too much. He is only 5 and he has been on steroids for so long. I lost a cat to long term use of steriods; I don't want my dog to experience what my cat did. My question is that I need a third o
You have to weigh his quality of life on the steroids vs his quality of life off the steroids, then decide if the steroids are worth the side effects. Unfortunately, you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Talk to your allergy vet about Temaril-p as opposed to prednisone. Good luck, vetcare

And there also is a cat food that is called Wellness. If you know of this brand is it good for Food Allergies. I would appreciate any other brands you may know of. Thanks, Denise
Any food is good as long as it does not contain in the ingredients, the food that your pet is allergic too. vetcare

...y for a thyroid problem. When excited, he frequently coughs and wheezes through his nose. Occasionally (a few times a week) the wheezing would result in his throwing up. Lately, he has been throwing up much more frequently (at least once a day). He also seems more lethargic. (He is 14 years old.) Is his condition deteriorating? Would some change in his medication be in order? (P.S. He has other medical problems as well - Food Allergies (routinely eats Iams lamb & rice dogfood), had glaucoma in one eye resulting in blindness in that eye, frequently on antibiotics for scratching himself almost rare in some spots).
I recommend a visit to the vet. i would not change any medication unless your vet tells you to. Your pet may need chest x-rays to find out why he is weezing etc. vetcare

...y sores that occasionally bleed on his back and chest. My vet told me it could be Food Allergies and gave me very expensive antibiotics and prescription dog food with no dyes.I just want a second opinion.Does this sound like Food Allergies to you????
Yes, this could be an allergy related to food. It caould also be a contact dermatitis or atopy ( all related to allergies). I recommend that you see a dermatologist for a second opinion. vetcare
