I have asked this question twice already, on...
...ce about 10 days ago and then again yesterday. My answer never gets posted.
I have bulldogs. Main question is my female had pups in January and was due for heat in June, but missed. Is this normal? What could be causing this?
Second, one of my males weighs 67 lbs and is developing Arthritis and/or hip dysplasia..what is his dose of cosequin?
Thanks
Heather

...on Metacam (meloxicam). Currently reduced from 10 to 6 mg. Is this the same as Rimadyl? Can he take aspirin or glucosamine with chondroitin instead? if so, what would the doze be?
No, metacam and rimadyl are different anti-inflammatories and should not be given together. Discuss other options with your vet. Gluc. with chon is safe to give with any anti-inflammatory. vetcare

I have a Sheltie named Sable who is 4 years ...
...old and was diagnosed with having Arthritis to both of her hips. She is an inside dog, so she doesn't get much exercise and everytime we try to exercise her by playing fetch, she starts limping on her leg, so we stop because we are afraid to hurt her. From our vet we did recieve some steroid medication that really helped her alot, but the cost of the pills have forced us to stop giving it to her. What I am asking is I know that for humans, the doctor will tell them to take Aleve or Ibuprofen for the pain. Can I give my sheltie these antiinflammatory medications and maybe get the same effect as it would in humans? If not is there any kind of OTC medication we can give her to help my dog get around easier and cost effecient? My dog can hardly get up because she just limps on her leg soo much, causing her to lay around alot. She is overweight and we have put her on a diet but can't exercise her because her leg starts hurting her. What can
Aspirin is safe for dogs. You should call your vet for a dose and explain the situation to him/her. vetcare

MY HUSKY (6 YRS OLD) HASN'T BEEN ACTING NORM...
...AL FOR ABOUT A WEEK. HE DOESN'T JUMP/RUN/ROLL ON HIS BACK. HE WALKS SLOWER THAN NORMAL. I TOOK HIM TO THE VET THEY PUT HIM ON RIMADYL THEY SAID HE PROBABLY HAS ARTHRITIS, I ASKED WHY HAS IT HAPPENED SO QUICKLY AND NOT GRADUAL, THE VET DIDN'T KNOW. THE VET DIDN'T WANT TO DO A XRAY CUZ HE WAS IN SO MUCH PAIN, COULDN'T EXTEND HIS HIND LEGS FULLY. I GAVE MY DOG ONE RIMADYL PILL AND HE WAS ACTING NORMAL, RUNNING/JUMPING AFTER 8 HOURS. NOW HE ROLLS ON HIS BACK (HE COULDNT ROLL OVER WITHOUT CRYING BEFORE THE RIMADYL)AND I NOTICE WHAT APPEARS TO BE A BRUISE ON HIS LOWER GENITAL AREA SHAPED ROUND SIZE OF A TENNIS BALL. IT APPEARS TO BE TENDER. SHOULD I STILL HAVE THE XRAY DONE, CONTINUE HIM ON THE RIMADYL?
HE APPEARS TO BE BACK TO NORMAL, JUST HIS APPETITE IS NOT BACK TO NORMAL BUT IT COULD BE A SIDE EFFECT OF THE MEDICINE, WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST????
THANKS!!!!!!
This is not a side effect of the medication. I recommend a recheck at the vet. Maybe the bruise is the problem. vetcare

...EtoGesic for Arthritis in back legs which has helped, but now she has infection and needs to be spade. Question, at this age, how will the surgery affect her?
Well, if she has a pyometra you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. She will die of the pyometra if you do not go ahead with the surgery. If she is healthy otherwise, then I do not see any serious problems with going ahead with the sugery. I am sure she will feel better after surgery. vetcare

I have a male sheltie with arthritis problem...
...s and my vet recommended Rimadyl. We had blood tests done before starting him on the RX. I has worked wonders on him. However the cost is pretty high. I noticed that online prescriptions are much lower but my vet won't write one for online use. Any idea how I can find a vet in Kansas City who will write Jake a prescription for this drug. I love my dog but the drug cost are really high. Any help would be great.
thx
jim
If your vet prescribed the medication the he is obligated to write you a rx. Call the state board and see what they can do to help. Talk to friends and neighbors, maybe they can recommend a vet. vetcare

I took him to a vet, he told that he has Arthritis and his knee is out of place, he is over wiegh, and he is too old to have surgery, and it wouldn't be right to put him through it at his age... I was very unhappy with his answer.. So I waited a month, and took him to another Vet who told me, that he needed to lose weight, in which he did. From 26 to 17 pounds, and she put he on a better feeding pattern, and on cosequin, alsp a pain medication to use when he is in pain.. She told me he knee is popped out, and w/ the weigh, it doesn't help..Jade can walk (barely, somedays), and jumps on the furniture.. My hubsand tells me I spoil him cause I carry him up & down steps, and pick him up to go on the couch. But, I feel sorry for him , I know he can do this, but I try to help. Plus he

My golden retriever has this tumor on her ne...
...ck just above her shoulder. I had it checked earlier with a needle biopsy. It was not cancer. However it has grown quite large. No sigh of pain. She is 10 1/2 years old. Also has Arthritis in her hips, so was not going to put her through surgery at her age. When last biopsied, the vet said she got only blood, and that was not good. I assume it might be cancer? Any suggestions other than making her comfortable until her condition worsens? Good appitite, likes lots of water, so that I have to monitor it. Also uses pill for incontenance.
Why don't you have the entire tumor removed and biopsied. vetcare

It is possible to see arthritis and/or hip dysplasia in a 2 year old lab. The most common clinical signs are limping especially after exercise. If you notice then then I recommend a vet visit. Your vet may want to take x-rays to confirm a diagnosis. vetcare
