LaPerm

History

Laperms can rightly be termed the ‘genetically unique felines’ as they originated through a spontaneous and sudden mutation in 1982. The term laperm means curly or rippled. This distinctive and interesting breed is believed to have sprung from the strong, healthy, domestic barn cats. The first laperm breed was born as one among the litter of six kittens on an Oregon farm.

Appearance

The fur, which is like ringlet-type curls covering the entire body, is a typical characteristic of this breed. These curls can be either tight or corkscrew curls. The coats of laperms can be curled, straight, or bald. They have prominent wide set ears and expressive eyes. Another noteworthy feature of this cat is its set of curly whiskers. They have a triangular face and head. It also has a curly plumed tail. Laperms are either born hairless or with short curly hair. The curls tend to be tighter towards the throat area and the base of the ears.

Personality

Laperms are extremely fond of human love and affection and can be ideal lap cats. They long for the physical presence of their masters and also love to be kissed, cuddled and pampered. Laperms are highly inquisitive. They are hard working and also make excellent hunters. With their unique personality and appearance, the laperms catch the fancy of every cat lover. Their strong bonding instincts make these cats ideal companions.

Health Concerns

Male laperms weigh about 7 to 12 pounds while the females weigh 5 to 6 pounds. Belonging to the hardy barn stock, Laperms hardly suffer from any genetic or other disorders.
