German Rex

History

The German Rex is thought to be the earliest known breed of curly-coated cat, which traces its origin to the 1930s from a male cat named Munk in Königsberg, East Prussia, Germany. In modern day, the German Rex breed was developed from an adopted stray cat, which was crossed with a Cornish Rex. German Rex Population is being improved by selected breeding programs undertaken by a group of enthusiastic breeders’ world wide in a desperate attempt to sustain this rare breed.

Appearance

The most unique feature of the German Rex is undeniably its lambs’ wool coat. It is a medium sized muscular cat with a well defined chest, slender legs of medium length and short and curly whiskers. It has a round head, strong chin and cheeks. The eyes are distantly set apart and the color typically corresponds to the skin coat. The thick furry tail is long with a rounded tip.

Personality

German Rex Cats are very friendly and outgoing cats, which readily mingle with other pets and its family. It is very fun loving and playful; It is agile and is good at performing tricks and pranks tirelessly over and over again to grab the attention of its owner. It is an excellent temperament and endurance.

Health Concerns

Though German Rex Breeds are normally healthy, they are susceptible to some hereditary diseases like Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
