Colorpoint Shorthair
History
Colorpoint Shorthairs share the same bloodline of Siamese and it was developed for the first time in the late 1940s in Great Britain from Siamese cats. Colorpoint Shorthair was recognized first as a breed in 1964.
Appearance
Colorpoint Shorthairs are renowned for its sixteen different “point” colors in addition to the four primary Siamese colors. It is a medium cat with long muscular streamlined body that resembles that of a Siamese but with its own distinct colors such as seal, chocolate, or red with points in cream, chocolate tortoiseshell and red. The neck is long and straight and ears are particularly large. The coat is short and glossy, and is tight to the body. Colorpoint Shorthairs generally darken with age, still the contrast between body color and points remain distinct.
Personality
Colorpoint Shorthairs are also called “Velcro kitties” as they like to tag along or curl up to its owners, whenever possible. They make an adorable and intelligent pet; above all they are vociferous and talkative. Though they look skinny, they are highly charged and are outgoing. They make a wonderful companion as they are responsive to the owners’ needs.
Health Concerns
Though Colorpoint Shorthairs are sturdy and well built, they might be vulnerable to upper respiratory illnesses. As they are highly sensitive to anesthetics, any intrusive surgical should be undertaken only under a competent veterinarian. Some cats might carry heart defects or cleft palates in their genes.
