Ceylon

History

The Ceylon Cat is originally a native of Ceylon (the present Sri Lanka), which was first brought to Italy by Dr. Paolo Pellegatta in 1984. “Gatto di Ceylon" specimens caught the fancy of all and soon this pedigree was registered and recognized internationally. Today, it is a popular pet all over the world and is regularly imported from Italy, where it is bred to distant places like France and Germany.

Appearance

The Ceylon is a medium sized cat with a solid rounded body and a short, fine and silky striped coat. Their hind legs are longer than the front legs and have tabby markings. The head is rounded with greenish, almond shaped, expressive eyes. Distinct tabby imprints are also seen on its neck, tail and head. Normally, markings can be of various colors like blue, red, cream or tortoiseshell. The black-ticked golden form is also known as the Manilla. Ceylon has on its forehead the design of the holy “Kobra”, which is highly revered by Sri Lankans.

Personality

True to the friendly nature of the human inhabitants of its native place of the sunny island of Sri Lanka, the Ceylon cats are friendly and responsive according to the breeder, Dr. Paolo Pellegatta who created this magnificent breed. These cats are extremely playful and are enthusiastic, which makes them highly popular worldwide.
