Australian Mist
History
As the name suggests, the Australian Mist owes it origin to Australia. Believed to be an outcome of the crossbreeding between Burmese, Abyssinian, and domestic shorthair cats, the Australian Mist was officially recognized in the year 1986. The breed has a large gene pool, derived from more than 30 breeds. The Burmese is believed to be the predominant contributor.
Appearance
A medium-sized, short-haired cat, the Australian Mist has large, round head, expressive eyes and a plumply furred tail. The breed comes in a variety of colors including blue, brown, gold, peach, chocolate and lilac. Patterns like delicate spots or intricate marbled swirls distinguish the American Mist breed from the rest and its legs and tail are barred or ringed. The nose, chin and the whiskerpads of the breed are broad and it has round-tipped, widely set ears.
Personality
American Mist is known for its temperament. Basically an affectionate breed, the American Mist is people oriented and enjoys getting involved in family activities. They are friendly with kids and other pets. Though they remain kittenish all their lives, they are trainable from 9 – 10 weeks.
Health Concerns
The average life expectancy of the breed is about 12 years. The breed is prone to gingivitis and allergies.
