American Wirehair
History
The recent entry to the feline world, the American Wirehair originated as a result of spontaneous mutation in the domestic cats in the mid twentieth century. The breed first showed up during American colonial era, but somehow receded in the process of natural breeding. But again in 1966 the breed was discovered in Verona, New York, which then gained popularity in no time. These cats enjoy the status of the unique American breed, for being found nowhere else in the world.
Appearance
The wirehaired breed can be medium or large sized, but usually with sturdy muscular-built and strong legs, characterized by full paws. Wirehaired coat is a quality that is typical to this breed. Though appearing to be wired, the coat hair can be lengthy and become dense as the cat ages. The breed is available in different color patterns with a combination of white. Other dominant features include evident cheek bones, and large round eyes placed at a distance.
Personality
Though the cats’ temperament depends a lot on their upbringing, they mostly seem to hold a gentle and friendly attitude. These cats make sure that they have a say in everything you do; something any loyal companion would want to. Basically fun lovers, the breed is found to relate well with human feelings, but being cuddled is something they do not tend to accept.
Health Concerns
Normally strong and healthy, the breed is with fewer health problems. However, these cats are more prone to allergies and some may lose their coat when under stress or in rough weather conditions.
