American Curl

History

The American Curl is a breed that originated quite recently, when the first ever cat of this breed showed up along the streets of Lakewood, California in the late 20th century. The breed is characterized by unusually curled ears, which is said to have taken place due to a natural mutation process. The breed can track back its ancestral backgrounds to Shulamith, the foundation female cat of the American Curl. However, it was during 1983 that the breed was publicly acclaimed, though are still found rare.

Appearance

This medium-sized breed has a sturdy body. One of the main characteristics of the breed is that it has its ears curled upwards and backwards. Their ears are erect at birth, but curl as they mature. The cat looks refined with its slightly elongated body, fine-textured coat and the evident walnut-shaped eyes. The breed comes in long-haired as well as short-haired varieties.

Personality

This breed of cats loves the company of people and makes a wonderful pet companion. Normally even-tempered and clever, they tend to show up kitten-behavior as they take time to mature. The American Curl is known for its adaptability to any situation and is never hostile to other breeds. They are extremely affectionate and are curious about most things.

Health Concerns

The American Curl is normally a strong and healthy breed and has very rare chances of getting affected with the kind of genetic disorders that the rest suffer from.
