American Bobtail

History

The American Bobtail is of truly American origin, which appeared quite recently in the latter part of the 20th century. Originated from a cat somewhere in Arizona, the breed is bobtailed and hence the name. It was in the wake of the 21st century that the cat gained popularity, which was when the pedigree standard of the cat was adopted.

Appearance

The American Bobtail is usually mistaken for wildcats, as they appear to be strong and athletic in built. A medium sized cat, the breed comes in thick short-haired and medium or long haired coats in a variety of colors as well as in combination colors. The head is rather wedge-shaped with evident brows and almond-shaped eyes with a fierce gaze. True to its name, the breed is bobtailed, which is fluffy and quarter the length of a normal tail.

Personality

The breed conveys the feel of a wildcat, but has a pleasing personality and attitude that matches a perfect pet partner. Basically fun loving and lively, the breed makes friends with other pets quite easily. These can well be a bundle of fun for children and are quite protective of the family, just as a normal dog would be. But when in distress, these cats can be unusually calm and might act sensitive. The American Bobtail is known for its intelligence and alertness.

Health Concerns

Some of these cats may have bad hips and Rumpies. Moreover, this breed is generally prone to a lot of health problems and is not quite acceptable due to this.
