Cesky Terrier
History
Also known as bohemian terrier, Cesky terrier is an exquisite breed, a mixture of the breeds Sealyham and Scottish terriers. It owes its origin to Frantisek Horak, a Czechoslovakian breeder. Initially recognized by the FCI in 1963, the breed was primarily used for hunting purposes.
Appearance
Cesky terriers are strongly built and have an agile and robust body made complete with thick soft coat. They have an elongated body with narrow head and chest. With its thick beard, eyebrows and moustache, it bears a lot of resemblance to a typical Sealyham terrier. The dog grows to an average height of 10 to 13 inches and has a body weight of 13 to 23 pounds. Though they are born with a thick black coat, it tends to grow dull as the dog ages. Cesky terriers have brown or yellow eyes and ears folding towards the head in a triangular shape.
Personality
Cesky terrier is an intelligent breed with quick learning abilities. The dog also possesses several qualities like loyalty, obedience and courage. The cesky terrier is also an ideal family dog because of its lightheartedness and affectionate nature. They also make an ideal companion for kids because of their playful nature. Their aggressive and stubborn temperament makes them fit for being watchdogs.
Health Concerns
The main advantage of Cesky terrier is that they have minimal health concerns. However, a common ailment noted in this breed is the Scottie Cramp disease that effects the movement of the dog. The average life span of a cesky terrier is 12 to 15 years.
