Brittany Spaniel
History
Brittany Spaniel owes its name to the beautiful province of Brittany in France. The breed’s proud history dates back to 150 AD. The Brittany Spaniel was awarded official recognition in1938.
Appearance
The Brittany Spaniel is medium-sized and has a compact body with fairly long legs. This extremely attractive dog has a feathered single coat in awesome color combinations; in orange and white, liver and white, black and white, liver tricolor, and black tricolor. Its strikingly beautiful amber or hazel eyes convey an intelligent expression. The dog has a rounded skull of medium-length, a slightly ram-shaped muzzle and short and triangular ears with high withers. Its ears hang close to the head and its tail is either naturally short or docked. The average height of the breed ranges from 17 to 21 inches and it weighs 30 to 40 pounds.

Brittany Spaniel is an extremely intelligent dog, known for its vibrant temperament and compliance. Primarily used for hunting purposes, the dog is also an affectionate and gentle family pet. The Brittany Spaniel stands out for its obedience and remarkable enthusiasm to please its owner. This breed of dog exhibits a strong resistance to cold and damp conditions and possesses a unique instinct for retrieving from water. The dog possesses numerous outstanding qualities such as a keen sense of smell and the ability to work for prolonged periods.
Health Concerns
The normal life span of Brittany Spaniel is usually 10 to 12 years. Some of the major health problems encountered by dogs of this breed include hip dysplasia, Glaucoma and skin problems such as allergies.
