Triple Antibiotic Ointment is a combination of three antibiotic medicines of Bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin B and is used as a first aid for wounds in cats and dogs. It is used to treat bacterial infections of minor cuts, burns or scrapes on the skin of the animal.
Precautions when using
Triple Antibiotic Ointment
If the symptoms do not subside even after one week’s therapy, it is advisable to consult the veterinarian. Avoid using this medicine on large exposed skin areas. Do not use Triple Antibiotic Ointment for treating serious burns, deep cuts or any such serious injuries. Its safety in pregnant and lactating animals is not known. Never use more than the recommended dose, or do not prolong the application even after the wound is fully healed. Triple Antibiotic Ointment might adversely react with certain other medications like vitamins, minerals, herbal products or antibiotics with which the pet is being treated, so it is advisable to discuss the medication history of the pet with the veterinarian before initiating the treatment. Avoid applying any other topical creams or solutions along with this medicine. Desist from using Triple Antibiotic Ointment in animals with known drug allergy. The ointment is strictly for topical application. Be careful to protect eyes, mouth and nose of the animal while applying the ointment. Store the ointment in room temperature; do not refrigerate.
Side Effects of
Triple Antibiotic Ointment
Inform the veterinarian, if symptoms of side effects such as swelling, redness or itching are noticed. Allergic reactions might have symptoms like labored breathing; hives, swelling of face, tongue, etc., and in such cases discontinue the application forthwith.
Dosage for
Triple Antibiotic Ointment
The recommended daily dosage is 1 to 3 times for a week. Take care to clean and put new bandage every time the medicine is applied.
