The high-tech external canister filters generation with priming support and full of innovative technology for aquarium sizes up to 600 l. EHEIM professionel II is continuing the philosophy of the professionel series consistently and offers greater efficiency with even more convenience. The large priming cylinder on the pump head is not only a special design element. The filter system is filled with this convenient priming support at "the push of a button" and immediately the system starts working. Complicated priming principles for which every aquarium owner developed his own more or less inconvenient and often also wet technology are now a thing of the past. The supplied hose adapter is equipped with 2 shut-off valves. When the safety adapter is mounted, the flow rate is adjusted with the combi-lever. If the hose connection is disconnected, the combi-lever is also used but in conjunction with the red safety catch. The lever is easier to use and faulty operation is virtually impossible. In the hose adapter th flow rate indicator displays the flow rate. This way you can see the filter efficiency at a glance. EHEIM high performance ceramics, i.e. high quality ceramic components, provide for very quiet continuous operation characteristics. The high quality filter canister is equipped with practical filter baskets. Filter baskets are easy to take out and to fill.

Rated 5 out of 5 Eheim 2071 I purchased the 2071 from Petcarerx in April 2011. The quality of the unit is apparent when removing it from the box. Price-wise its a little more expensive than comparable filters from other manufacturers but in my research I found that Eheim was a top manufacturer of high quality filters. The price here at Petcarerx was the best I saw and the order processing and delivery was prompt. I started keeping a few Goldfish in a 40 gallon tank back in January. They are notoriously messy and the original filter I had, while doing an adequate job, had some shortcomings. The 2071 is easy to set up. I read quite a few reviews about difficulties in setting up canister filters but I had no trouble assembling and putting this filter into service other than some minor delays with the initial priming and start up, which took longer than advertised. A real plus is that maintenance intervals are longer than other filters so your total cost of ownership over time will actually end up lower than if you purchased a less expensive filter with more frequent maintenance like filter pad and media replacement. I’ve had the unit in service for 4 months and the filter is functioning great with crystal clear water along with ammonia and nitrite levels at zero. I also purchased optional ‘activated carbon foam pad’ set (#2628710-3 pads) which fits into the SUBSTRAT pro basket under the fine filter pad. You'll want to check the Eheim website for additional information on maintenance schedules and visual directions which were not included in the assembly and startup directions that come with the unit.
