How Does Natural Defense - Natural Flea and Tick Squeeze-On for Dogs and Puppies Work?
The key neurotransmitter found in insects is Octopamine, which the insect equivalent of adrenaline. Utilizing the same compounds certain plants have to defend themselves against bugs, Sentry Natural Defense Natural Flea and Tick Control has a blend of botanical extracts including peppermint oil, cinnamon oil and lemongrass oil. This combination of oils creates a block of the octopamine neurotransmitter receptors in insects causing a total breakdown of the insect's central nervous system.
Side Effects and Warnings
On first application only give part of the tube to see if your dog has any reaction. Reactions such as skin irritation and hair loss at the site of application may occur. If there is none, continue with complete dosage. If there is an issue wash your dog with shampoo or dish washer soap which will counteract the reaction. White haired/furred dogs may experience temporary discoloration at the application spot.

Do not combine with other spot-on flea and tick treatments unless recommended by your veterinarian.

Rated 4 out of 5 by works well, just be vigilant! It's so nice to finally find a non-toxic flea/tick product that doesn't dig a big hole in your wallet. We have 3 pups and for us, we need to be strict about applying - at least once a month, especially in hot weather. Plus, the smell doesn't bother them at all, it's a bit strong and personally, I love the smell. Just be sure to use it every 3-4 weeks if you do use it. I love the strong clove & all the other natural ingredients. The fleas and ticks seem to hate it though, since I don't see our pups scratch for at least 3 weeks. March 28, 2013

My dog did ok on it the fist month, the second month, she became withdrawn and just didn't act right - I thought maybe the smell was just bothering her, but then the 3rd month, she went CRAZY after the application. She ran around and flopped around on the floor, started shivering and drooling uncontrollably. DO NOT USE THIS ON YOUR DOG!!! I believe it to be harmful :( December 29, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by couldn't stand the mess I applied this to my white dog, it had a strong odor but I thought maybe the next day it would calm down. The next day it still stunk and the area of medicine spread over large patch of fur with a oily residue. I gave him a bath which would have been 18hours later and it would not wash off. The patch is stained yellow and I cant even pet him now. As far as effectiveness I have no idea. December 18, 2012
